As we celebrate Emancipation Day 2025, the St. Lucia Diabetes and Hypertension Association (SLDHA) encourages all Saint Lucians to reflect on the strength, resilience, and determination of our ancestors who fought valiantly for our freedom with healthy minds and bodies.
This day serves as a powerful reminder that our ability to engage in culture, teach tradition, and celebrate heritage was made possible through that physical and mental fortitude.
Today, we face a new fight: the battle against Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs), such as diabetes and hypertension, which continue to impact our communities.
We call on every citizen to take ownership of their health and to emancipate themselves from the grip of NCDs by making informed lifestyle choices, seeking early intervention, and supporting one another in the journey to wellness.
Let us honor our past by investing in our future one healthy choice at a time.

The St. Lucia Diabetes & Hypertension Association (SLDHA) was conceptualized on August 9, 1983 and nationally launched in April, 1989. It was established to attend to the welfare of diabetic and hypertensive individuals in St. Lucia, as well as to provide service to the general public.
